How to Know Jesus

If you’re on this page it means you have a hunger and desire to know Jesus! He’s amazing, and He loves you. He cares deeply about you. He gave His life for you!

There are so many people who have summarized the Gospel message very well. I am sending you to one I believe has all the basis covered.

How to Know Jesus
The summary is:

All have sinned except God and sin brought torment, bondage, and brokenness into our lives.

The Good News is Jesus paid for all sin so those who believe in Him and follow Him may have eternal life; restoration from brokenness, freedom from slavery to sin, and freedom from eternal damnation.

Forgiveness is available through repentance (admitting you have fallen short of God’s standard and making a decision to turn from those choices) and faith in Jesus Christ.

Believe Jesus is the Son of God, born of a virgin, died for our sins, and was resurrected on the third day guaranteeing eternal life for those who believe.

Sample prayer (there’s no formula…you open your heart to God. Confess, repent, believe, receive):

Dear Lord,

I admit that I am a sinner. I have done many things that don’t please you. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry and I repent. I ask you to forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross for me, to save me. I believe you were resurrected guaranteeing eternal life. I believe forgiveness washes me white as snow; you cleanse me as though I’ve never sinned. You did what I could not do for myself. I come to you now and ask you to take control of my life, I give it to you. Help me to live every day in a way that pleases you. I love you, Lord, and I thank you that I will spend all eternity with you.

Amen.
(Prayer modified from Christian.about.com)

Though many stop with praying a prayer. Jesus invited people to follow Him. Following involves becoming a disciple of Jesus. Meaning, the old life has passed away and the heart seeks to submit to God in all things.

If you’re just starting out, I highly recommend reading the Gospel of John in the New Testament.

Gospel of John
I highly recommend connecting with others who love and follow Jesus. To find a great church home, check out their beliefs. The foundation of the Gospel is love. Is the church doing anything to help the poor, serve the community, is it rooted in the Gospel? My beliefs are posted on this blog you can use for reference.

I recommend connecting with a church so you may be baptized.

One Community of Churches I would recommend (you may research your own. I wanted to give you an option that’s global).

Vineyard Churches
You are loved and prayed for. If you chose to make Jesus your Savior, I’d love to hear from you! Leave a comment and I promise I will get back to you! You are deeply loved (John 3:16).

Love in Christ,

Erin
